This essay by Gerard Jones is centered around the benefits of violent media and how it helps children grow up in society. This is expressed with his thesis, "The dual- identity concept at the heart of many superhero storied helps kids negotiate the conflicts between the inner self and the public self as they work through the early stages of socialization. Jones also supports this with evidence such as, “Fear, greed, powe r- hunger, rage: these are aspects of our selves that we try not to experience in our lives but often want, even need, to experience vicariously through stories of others". This evidence is helpful because it is a quote from Melanie Moore who is a Ph.D who works with teenagers. Jones is using the rhetorical device of ethos here which shows credibility for this information. In the first video from fox news the speaker for the republican party was not very clear giving answers to the reporter on TV, this is probably because she did not want to say too much and end up being criticized about it later. This is a way that a lot of politicians run around questions when they are asked. They are very good at answering a question without really answering the question that was presented.
